What do you love getting from people that makes you feel great when you're with them? Is it praise, acknowledgement, or feeling needed and supported? Think of three recent moments when you enjoyed being with others and loved how they made you feel. If possible, write down your thoughts about those moments and the feelings they brought up in you. Now, pause for a moment and consider how you could make yourself feel that way. What can you learn from what others do that makes you feel special and good? How can you integrate that into your life and do it for yourself? What would you say or do for yourself today to give yourself those feelings? We often look outside ourselves for people or situations to make us feel a certain way. While it's lovely when that happens, it's also powerful and beautiful to acknowledge that we can do this for ourselves. The moment you start giving yourself what you expect from others, you become even more empowered and fulfilled from within. This realisation brings a magical shift – you are enough, and you can give yourself the approval and joy that you seek from others. It doesn't mean you don't need other people; instead, your interactions come from a place of choice and love rather than seeking fulfilment or happiness from others. So today, let's learn from those moments that make us feel good and think of ways we can say or do those things for ourselves, giving ourselves that gift.

I learned this powerful phrase: "That's not me" while doing a Marisa Peer course on Rapid Transformational Therapy - RTT. This key phrase is used with clients during an RTT therapy session, reminding them that they are no longer defined by difficult or traumatic moments from their past. Time and time again I have witnessed how powerful this phrase is. And on a day to day basis it can be incredibly effective when we feel low or unwell and start to identify with negative experiences. Using this phrase helps us realise that just because we felt a certain way in the past, it doesn't define who we are now. Embracing this mindset can be truly empowering, allowing us to take control of our lives. Sometimes, we might find ourselves behaving like someone we knew growing up, such as a parent or sibling. In those moments, it's important to remind ourselves that we don't have to be like them – we can choose who we want to be. Claiming our uniqueness and acknowledging that we aren't bound by our past is liberating. We can decide who we want to be in the present moment, regardless of how we behaved yesterday or years ago. So next time you catch yourself falling into old patterns, remember to say "that's not me" and choose the person you want to be. This simple yet powerful practice can help you separate your past from your present and reclaim your power. Give it a try – you might be surprised by the impact it has on your life! When working on new projects, it's great to have a vision of what you want to create, and understand the value it brings to the world or yourself. If you struggle to see a clear picture, that's okay – not everyone operates the same way. Instead, tap into your other senses, think about how it will feel when it's done or the value it will bring once it's been achieved. Consider the difference your creation will make for you and others. Write down words that come to mind – these can become your compass moving forward. Don't get overwhelmed with the "how-to" side of things. Trust that as you take steps towards your vision, the path will become clearer. Focus on taking one step at a time, and eventually, these steps will build momentum. Remember that everyone's vision is different. Some people have a clear picture, while others feel their way through. Trust in the process and focus on taking steps aligned with your vision and goals. Step by step, you'll embark on a rewarding journey full of lessons and growth. 9/4/2023 Colourful mindfulness exerciseBy Carolina Herrera
Want to live a more mindful life? Here's a fun and easy exercise to help you stay present and truly experience each moment. We often hear about the importance of mindfulness, but it can be tricky to apply in our day-to-day lives. Breathing consciously is one way to stay present, but if you want to mix it up and have some fun, try this: as you leave your house, pick a colour – any colour that you're feeling connected to that day. Then, while you're out, look for things in that colour. You'll be amazed at how much more aware you become of your surroundings. Not only will you notice the colours, but you'll also become more aware of smells and sights that you might have otherwise missed. This simple activity can bring a sense of calm and tranquillity, as it gives your mind a break from daily worries and to-do lists. It's a great way to step out of autopilot mode, especially when we're often overwhelmed by the amount of things we have to do. So give it a go – it's super easy and enjoyable! Just pick a colour before heading out for a walk, running errands or going to work, and try spotting that colour as you go. You'll soon see what a lovely experience living mindfully can be. 8/28/2023 Redefining self: experiment with labelsBy Carolina Herrera
Today, let's have some fun experimenting with life after letting go of some labels we've given ourselves or adopted at some point. We often label ourselves without realising it, and these labels can be positive or negative. But what does a label do, regardless of its quality or description? It always has an effect on us and leads us to act in a certain way. Try this exercise: for one day, monitor what you say about yourself. Think about the words you use after "I am." At the end of the day, write them down or record them on your phone. You'll realise that these words really affect how you feel about your day, yourself, and your reality. If you're worried about forgetting this during the day, sit down now and write ten things that come to mind when you write "I am." Look at those things and think if they reflect who you are and how you feel about yourself. You will find that the words you use to define yourself have the power to change your reality! But what's great is that you can change them! You don't have to stick with those labels; you can choose new ones. First, acknowledge the reality you're creating for yourself by adopting those labels. Then, try changing just one label for one day and see how life feels. For example, I used to always say I was clumsy, but after learning more about the power of words, I decided never to describe myself as clumsy again. Since then, I seem to trip over a lot less than before. It's incredible! So give it a go: monitor the words you're using to describe yourself and write them down. Think about the reality you're creating with these words. Then, just for one day, change one label and see what life feels like when you do that. Hopefully, this will show you how powerful and easy it can be to change your days, your life, and your experiences simply by changing a label. By Carolina Herrera
If you're considering retraining or enrolling in a new course for a career change, here is what's worked for me: Try a small, introductory course before committing to a full degree. Nowadays, there are plenty of online platforms offering amazing courses from top universities. The skill-building section here on this platform provides links to these course providers, allowing you to try out courses ranging from a few days to a few months. This lets you experience academic learning again and helps you decide if it's truly what you're interested in. Before committing a lot of money towards a new course or university degree, consider the reasons behind your desire to study. Is it for a new or better job? In that case, reach out to people on LinkedIn or within your network who can share their experiences and advice on entering that profession. Look at your dream jobs and see what qualifications they require – this can give you a clearer idea of what to study and it can save you time and money! Again, check out the skill-building section on aliferedesign.com where you'll find various platforms offering courses of different lengths and levels, giving you an excellent taste of the subject matter and helping you decide whether it's worth diving deeper into. I've gone ahead and researched all these platforms for you to save you some time so be sure to check them out. (I am not affiliated to any of them - but I've been in your shoes, feeling confused and overwhelmed by the choice, so that's why I've just selected a few to help get you started). |
